Trimper's Big Wheel back in action after expensive zoning error on Ocean City Boardwalk

And the wheel is back. Controversy struck earlier this month surrounding the placement of Trimper's Rides' 149-foot-tall Ferris wheel, as the contraption reached at least 10 feet over the park's property line edging the Boardwalk. The situation seemed to reach conclusion by June 9, after the amusement park informed town officials it would move the ride off town property. Now, it's open once again.
Seasonal Worker Picture Continues To Evolve For Resort Area;

At Trimper’s Rides, President Antoinette Bruno said the park had applied for 150 J-1 students this summer, but had only been allotted nine. While there are openings for full- and part-time positions with competitive wages and benefits, she said, the park is currently operating with significantly limited staff.
Last year, Trimper’s augmented its seasonal workforce through the H-2B visa program, which brings foreign nationals into the country to fill temporary, non-agricultural jobs. But Bruno’s request for additional H-2B workers this summer was recently put on hold pending further documentation.
To that end, Bruno has turned to local representatives for support. On Tuesday, for example, the Worcester County Commissioners voted unanimously to send a letter to the U.S. Labor Department supporting her request for additional workers.
“Our town just doesn’t have the full-time population to fill all the seasonal positions we have …,” she said. “Ocean City is a great place to live and work, but we need affordable housing and we need to attract people to work in our businesses.”

While schools are limited in what they can do for seniors within current guidelines, Stephen Decatur High School parents are doing what they can to come up with activities to celebrate students’ final year of high school. Next Friday, seniors are invited to Trimper Rides in Ocean City to enjoy an evening of rides, dancing and refreshments

Resort planners this week signed off on a private property plan to completely renovate the south end of the Boardwalk and replace vast sections with a “foody” destination open-air food court. “Winsdsor Resort would like to be at the forefront of renovating downtown,” she said. “For the last five years or so, there has been a steady decline in the downtown area, including our properties. The Inlet Village is a little tired and the facades are outdated.”

A new team stepped in to lead the way at Trimper Rides of Ocean City as 2020 got started. The property, which dates back to 1890, has decades upon decades of history. Founded by Daniel B. Trimper, various branches of the family tree have managed the park for more than a century. At the helm as president now is Antoinette Bruno, Daniel Trimper III’s daughter. Bruno noted it as a “return to the original family.”
